Update to My Saved Work
Big update to PolicyMap today, as “My Saved Work” just got an overhaul, making it easier and faster to use. In addition to a much clearer interface, you now have the ability to group different objects (maps, tables, 3-layer maps, custom regions, etc.) together, by project, so you don’t have to look in each object category to find related materials.
Before going into the changes, it’s important to mention that all your saved work was maintained through this update. So if you have a bunch of maps and custom regions saved, rest easy, they’re still there.
Just a reminder: “My Saved Work” can be accessed by clicking on the folder icon on the top right corner above whichever page you’re on:
The first thing you’ll notice about the new “My Saved Work” page is that instead of being its own page, it’s now simply a pop-up box that appears over whatever page you’re working on:
The second thing you’ll notice is that it’s now really, really good looking. It has icons for all the different types of objects you can save, a search bar to help find what you’re looking for, and is generally more readable.
There are no longer icons for renaming or deleting objects. You can do this by clicking on the ellipsis (dot dot dot) icon to the right of the object.
In addition to Open, Rename, and Delete, you’ll see two new options, “Copy” and “Move”. And that brings us to the biggest new feature: “My Projects”.
As an alternative to saving an object with other objects of the same type (like saving maps in “Maps”, tables in “Tables”, etc., which you can still do), you can now save an object to a “project” folder, which can hold multiple object types.
To create a new project, go to the bottom left of the screen, and click on the “+” next to “My Projects”:
After naming the project, you can move or copy existing objects to it, or save new objects to it, using the save button:
By default, if you save a map, it will offer to save it in the Maps section. But if you click on the project, you can save it there instead.
Both sections now allow you to create subfolders and systems of subfolders, so you can have folders in the Maps section to organize your maps, and folders in your projects to further organize them.
Keep in mind that in the object-specific sections, you can only save objects of that type in the section. Whereas you can save anything in one of your projects, you can’t save a report in “Maps” or a custom region in “Tables”.
