PolicyMap Around the Web
It’s always interesting to see places where PolicyMap is being featured, whether we’re being promoted as a resource, or being used to visualize data. Here’s some recent buzz about PolicyMap.
Shelterforce
Community development publication Shelterforce had a roundup of tools for measuring health-related neighborhood conditions. Alongside other useful tools from Community Commons and PolicyLink (no relation!), PolicyMap was noted for its “features that juxtapose health data…with demographic, real estate, and other data.”
Not only was PolicyMap included, but Enterprise Community Partners’ Opportunity360 project, whose data and maps are powered by PolicyMap, was featured as well, noted for being “particularly powerful for quickly demonstrating a neighborhood’s assets and challenges down to the census-tract level, using over 200 data indicators from public and proprietary sources.”
The Shelterforce article featured many of the same tools included in a similar rundown at the Build Healthy Places Network.
American Society for Public Administration
Seton Hall M.P.A. candidate Lisa DeLuca presented her capstone project “Spatial Literacy with PolicyMap for Public Policy Undergraduate Instruction” at the annual American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) conference. The project explores how storytelling through data visualization and mapping tools can be more effective than using tables and spreadsheets, using PolicyMap to demonstrate.
Economic Innovation Group
Soon after eligibility data for Opportunity Zone designation was released and included on PolicyMap, EIG posted an embedded map from PolicyMap to let their users quickly identify eligible areas. Now that states have submitted their lists of designated tracts, EIG is showing PolicyMap data on designated areas.
Diversify Nevada
The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development worked with PolicyMap to make a widget showing Nevada’s Opportunity Zone eligible areas, along with an index of social need, to help the state best designate its Opportunity Zones. The public was able to use the site to submit comments on where they thought eligible tracts would be best placed.
Philly Tech Week
TECHNICALLY not on the web, but in real life, PolicyMap founder and CEO Maggie McCullough will participate in a Philly Tech Week panel discussion on “What’s Next in Nonprofit Tech”. If you’re in the Philadelphia area, we’d love to see you! Register here.
