Marrying ACS and Decennial Census Data on PolicyMap
We’ve worked to improve our user experience once again on PolicyMap by combining the latest American Community Survey 5-year estimates, 2010 Census counts and 2000 Census counts in our maps, tables and reports. You can now toggle seamlessly among the three years: 2007-2011 (what we call “2011” in the legend), 2010 and 2000, respectively, so that you’re always getting the data you need—whether it’s an estimate or a count. And in our Community Profile Report, we provide columns for all three years so that you can determine which value is the right one for your purposes.
As we’ve blogged about in the past, the 2010 Census really reduced the data offerings this time around, relying instead on the American Community Survey. As such, you’ll see that some of our indicators, like population and race, are available for 2011, 2010 and 2000, whereas others, like household income and poverty, are only available for 2011 and 2000.
We’re always happy to answer any questions you may have about the Decennial Census and American Community Survey products we provide on PolicyMap. Contact us any time at pmap@policymap.com!
