PolicyMap at the White House for Launch of Major Data Initiative
The Obama administration is announcing a new open data initiative today called “The Opportunity Project”. The program is an effort to create new resources to let users in the general public more easily access local and Federal data that they can use to assess and improve their communities.
Since PolicyMap knows a little about delivering data to the public in an easy-to-use platform, we were invited to participate in today’s launch, along with a few other data and mapping outfits like Redfin, Azavea, and Zillow. Maggie and Elizabeth will be presenting a customized online mapping application for use in this project: http://opportunity.policymap.com/. You can read more about our involvement here.
The launch will be this afternoon at 1:30 EST, and you can watch it live at the White House website: https://www.whitehouse.gov/live/expanding-opportunity-open-data-white-house-demo, or right here:
It’s exciting to see the effort to make data accessible being embraced at the highest levels, and we’re glad to be part of it. We’ll definitely be keeping track of how it goes.
