New Health Data: Community Health Centers

PolicyMap is always on the lookout for new datasets. Recently we added some new point level health datasets on Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). FQHCs are community health centers that receive federal aid to support their services because they assist lower-income and at-risk populations. You can access both of these datasets under the Health tab.

Each of these two datasets show locations where health care is offered to underserved populations. The difference between the two is that one includes only those community health centers receiving funding under the Health Center Cluster grant program. The other includes not just those currently receiving funding, but also all community health centers that are potentially eligible to apply to the federal grant program.

In short, the first is a subset of the second. So, if you are looking for health centers receiving federal grant funding check out: “Community Health Centers (FQHCs).”

On the other hand, if you are looking to get a sense of the health care safety-net in a community you should use the second dataset called: “Community Health Centers and Look-Alikes.”
